Hi I’m Amanda I founded the Flower Farmer in 2018. It is a florist’s studio, workshop space and urban flower field located in Essex.

A bit about the urban flower field
I have a tiny half acre field in urban Essex. There is no greenhouse so what is grown is seasonal, outside, in the field & no pesticides.

I like to think of flowers as soul food, it is an opportunity to bring a bit of the outdoors inside to enjoy and admire. It is a real pleasure to be out in the field, harvesting only the best flowers I have, knowing that the very next day they will arrive at your home for you to enjoy.

I’ve always grown things; fruit, veg, flowers. For me there is a simple joy in tending the soil and making conditions just right to grow strong healthy plants which feed both our body and soul - I grow raspberries, apples, cherries the leaves and blossom slip into the ingredients for floral arrangements, whilst later in the season my children are let loose to harvest their fruity treasure to bring home, devour and share.

A bit about my floristry & design studio

As a florist, I’m committed to providing an all year service.

During the main growing season (late March – mid October) much of the foliage and flowers will be freshly cut and selected from our small but plentiful urban flower field. This allows us to celebrate the best of seasonal English grown blooms including tulips, sweet peas, sunflowers, cosmos and dahlias.

During the winter months I work with a local wholesale flower supplier to source both imported and British flowers and foliage.

In my studio in Shoeburyness, I design and arrange beautiful:

  • Hand tied cottage garden style bouquets for delivery both locally and across the UK.

  • Sympathy wreaths and arrangements. I aim to create with flowers, designs that are both soulful and comforting at a time when there are very few words to express how a family feels.

  • Seasonal wreaths and swags using both wire based and handmade willow hoops for spring, summer, autumn and winter.

  • Offers floral workshops throughout the year.

I don’t have a conventional shopfront because I can’t be in two places at once (shop and field), so the online shop is the best option for you and I to reach each other. The studio is located in a light spacious business unit in Shoeburyness, a short walk from the sea, and just over an hour drive from London. All the flowers are conditioned and packaged here and it also hosts our workshops.
